Constitution Description of the Committee
A Scholarship Committee shall be established to create and update guidelines for selecting and awarding recipients the annual scholarship(s). This committee shall be composed of three members, with a 3-year term on a rotating basis. The Nominating Committee shall present the names for election.
Scholarship Guidelines
The Committee recommends the establishment of the John and Barbara Ellington Scholarship Fund of the Goshen Baptist Association (GBA). The scholarship fund will be established with interest generated from the investment of monies from the sale of the properties of the former Goldmine Baptist Church, a GBA church. Those funds are invested in the EverBless Foundation in Henrico, Virginia.
Funds from EverBless will be available to the GBA during the first quarter of each year. The GBA Board of Directors will designate sixty percent of the funds received to Goshen Mission endeavors, and the remaining forty percent of the funds will be designated to the Scholarship endeavor.
The Scholarship Committee will receive applications from individuals interested in College – Technical education experiences. Dates for applications will be posted in the GBA churches. The deadline date for submitting an application is shown on the application form. The committee will award a scholarship(s) to students in the GBA churches that are in good standing with the Association. Awarded scholarships will be announced at the Spring GBA Meeting and scholarship checks will be awarded to the recipient at the church, during a worship service by a representative of the GBA. If there are additional funds on hand after the award of scholarships, the funds will held in a designated account until used for additional scholarships.
The Scholarship Committee will have 3 individuals nominated from the GBA churches and elected in the annual meeting of the association. The individuals elected will serve for a three-year term. They may serve a sequential term if elected by the association.
Eligibility
Any student, that is an active participant of a Goshen Baptist Association church that is in good standing, is eligible to apply for this scholarship between January 2 and Noon March 15th.
