Messy Church
August 19, 2010
Virginia Baptist Resource Center, Richmond, VA
Interested in ways to minister to children and their families who may never attend Sunday morning? Thinking about ways to reach new generations? Seeking ways to minister in your community in creative “out of the box” ways?
Join Ben Jamison, Chris Backert, Diane Smith, and a host of children’s and family ministers from across the state on Thursday, August 19 for an exploration of “Messy Church.” We’ll meet in the Virginia Baptist Resource Center at 10:00 a.m. on August 19, explore “Messy Church” (What? Where? How? When? Why?), have lunch (we’re Baptists after all!), and be on our way home by 2:00 p.m., if not earlier.
“Messy Church” has its roots in England as part of the Fresh Expressions Initiative; “Messy Church” is families learning and worshipping together and has proven to be an effective model for reaching new families and children in multiple contexts.
Just let us know of your plans to participate in “Messy Church” by emailing Karen Rackett or by phone at 800.255.2428, ext. 2243. The registration deadline is August 15.

Great things are happening in the "toe" of Virginia – Virginia Baptists are volunteering to do construction, social ministry, backyard Bible clubs, and other outreach ministries. To get more information about how your church can get involved, go to the Southwest Virginia Partnership webpage.

This summer 792 youth from 58 different churches participated in Impact Virginia! camps all across the state. Additionally, about 70 churches provided lunches and local support to the mission teams. According to our construction coordinator, if the 50 homes repaired had been worked on by construction companies, the value of the work done would have most likely exceeded $650,000!

This year’s focus is “A Story Worth Living” – looking at how we as Virginia Baptists are living out our faith.
How is your church living out its faith? We want to know!
The Program Committee invites you to share your church’s story on a simple, tabletop display that will be exhibited in the ministry fair during the annual meeting. Nothing fancy—a simple poster with pictures will work. Just share how your church is living out its faith story.
Please contact Mila Spaulding at 804.749.8690. We want Virginia Baptists to be inspired to new and imaginative ways of serving and writing new chapters in the story of God loving the world.

One of the thrilling stories in Virginia Baptist history is the saga of “the traveling church.” Nearly an entire congregation removed from Spotsylvania County in 1781 under the leadership of their pastor, Lewis Craig, and planted the first church on the frontier of Kentucky. It is at once a story of great adventure, of bold expansion and of trusting faith.
