WMU - Missions Unlimited

Womans Missionary Union sponsors monthly mission opportunities in which the local church may choose to participate. The varied ministries provide items needed to minister to people locally and abroad by:

  • providing home baked cookies for personnel aboard a naval carrier in the Middle East each Christmas
  • providing ministry to SAFE and Hope Houses, local pregnancy centers and homeless shelters
  • providing support ministries to child protective agencies
  • providing carebears and comfort dolls for our local police, fire, and rescue squads
  • providing school supplies and other items for children in need beginning the new school year. Items given to the local school for distribution. (Christmas in August)
Current Mission Projects:

Annual Fall Mission Celebration  will be held at Berea Baptist Church on Sunday October 10 3pm.  Activities include: a report and testimonies from Youth on Impact Louisa; DVD on Coeburn's Summer lunch distribution; and a Hands On project to make blankets for Standing Rock Indian Reservation (men--it is just like cutting plywood, just softer). Come and Celebrate!

What will your church do to put an end to hunger this year? We pray that you'll take the next 10 months to look at how your church family can help meet the needs of the hungry—whether it's in your backyard or across the globe.

This 2-minute video can be downloaded and shared with your congregation to get the conversation started. Watch Video

WMU Spring Missions Celebration held at Mount Gilead on April 11th was more than a success—it was a HUGE success. Expectations were that around 45-55 people would attend, but upon surveying the number of people seated in the sanctuary, the Program Coordinator from Stop Hunger Now was heard to say “Wow, you have over 100 people here—I need to go set up some more tables!”

20 churches plus individuals and the Fall offering collected $9,250.00 for 37,000 meals. We had 19 churches plus one visiting church join in the meal packing with 137 registered volunteers. Someone even counted up to 156 people! The meals will be going to the Ivory Coast, West Africa.

We learned that Haiti has already received around 3 million meals through Stop Hunger Now, and that a warehouse stands ready to replenish Haiti’s supply when the need arises.

We also collected 173 bags of non-perishable food, which were distributed to our local church food pantries in Goochland, Louisa and Orange counties. We also collected 16 Hispanic food bags to be distributed to our Latino church in Louisa.
